The photos on this page were provided to me by Dino, KX6D, who assisted Bob, AA6PW, in replacing the Fulton K1550 winch on his tower with the larger Fulton K2550. This
helps illustrate the challenges faced by the owner of an older version (vintage circa 1990) of the US Tower TX-455 when replacing and upgrading the Fulton winch. This
installation followed the failure of the original Fulton K1550, which had caused the tower to collapse.
The winch mounting bracket on this version of the US Tower TX-455 is slightly different from the mounting bracket on my TX-455 tower. The differing bracket and mounting system on my tower resulted in some interference problems that AA6PW and KX6D didn't have to consider. On the other hand, they faced problems I didn't. The photo below is of the final K2550 installation on AA6PW's US Tower TX-455.
The photo below shows how fender washers were used as shims to space the winch out so it would clear the 1" C-channel on the tower mounting bracket.
The photo below shows the new Fulton K2550 winch using the original mounting holes.
The main shaft (bolt) holding the spool had to be removed and flipped around so the head of the shaft (bolt) would fit inside of the C-channel.
Should you have questions on this installation, please contact Dino, KX6D, or Bob, AA6PW, for further details. |
